FIJI 1

Day 64- 08/10/09
NEW ZEALAND - FIJI

We left Christchurch early that morning, Chris dropped us off at the airport and we flew to Auckland to catch a flight to Fiji!!
We just want to say a big thank you to Chris, Hannah and Ollie for letting us stay with them for our last days in New Zealand! Thank You!

In Auckland airport we stocked up on a few duty free bottles of champers, as today was a celebration for us, 6 years ago to the date, Rob asked me out at his debs! Awww!

Anyway, while we were waiting to board the plane, the TV flashed with an evacuation warning for Fiji!!! The news said that there was a possibility of a tsunami, following the one that hit Samoa a few days earlier. We all waited in the lounge nervously waiting for the ads on the TV to pass and the news to come back on. It never did so people started phoning their friends, but before long one of the flight attendants announced that the evacuation had been cancelled and it was only a precaution!! I was still unsure, but boarded the plane anyway!
Once we landed in Nadi, we were greeted with perfect blue skies, sun and such warmth that forgot all about the warnings. Our taxi man told us that there was no need to worry because there were so many small vacant islands and reef out there that we wouldn’t be hit. Thank God!
So we settled into our Luxury 5 Star Hotel- The Sheraton!

Our view from the reception....

I know what you’re thinking, we’re supposed to be roughing it and backpacking everywhere. But today was our anniversary and we wanted a special treat. And I think we deserve it, at least surviving 3 weeks in a small van together!! Ha ha! We walked all around the resort which also joined to The Westin, but ours was way nicer! That evening we chilled out in the bar listening to the local band playing, they had long lounge seats like beds so we certainly enjoyed the evening. Then we headed to the beach front to enjoy our champers!! Happy 6 Years!! Our big night celebrating 6 years!! Yummy cosmos!

Day 65- 09/10/09
FIJI – SHERATON HOTEL, NADI

Waking up in paradise and pure luxury. It was time to do wait I have been waiting to do, RELAX. Just sit in the sunshine with a cocktail and relax not having to organise which route we have to take or sticking to any time scheduling. And that’s exactly what we did, after our buffet breakfast. Choosing from eggs, sausages, bacon, hash browns, beans, cereal, toast, pancakes, yogurts, fruit, juices, coffee and tea!!! We were in heaven!!! Danielle wasn’t feeling too good after all the champagne she had last night, but I was on top of my game eating everything!!!! I have lost 4kg since I’ve been away so I didn’t mind. So relaxing!!

After breakfast we hit the beach, white sand with the blue ocean in the back round, people kite surfing, jet skiing, banana boating, we were in paradise alright!! The weather was perfect because it wasn’t too hot around 28degrees, so we could sit in it without being hot and bothered like I always get!!
We booked a table in the Flying Fish restaurant on the beach front in the sand. Only serving sea food, it was a good change. Taking in the local welcome entertainment which involved local Fijian dancing and flame throwing and a live band to finish the night off. It was day 2 of Fiji and I was already happy we were here for 6 weeks, sun beach and lovely people.

Water Baby!
